As one of the few pediatricians who works closely with an internist who treats adults, I see first-hand where the obese children will be in 10-20 years. I became frustrated and angry at the wrong dietary guidelines and pushing for medications and surgeries instead of prevention. As a pediatrician, I think obesity prevention should start in childhood years. I am a firm believer that the low-carb modification is what the standard American diet needs. In my office, our approach is dietary based and with compassion, we choose lifestyle changes not diets or pills.
